Job Description

A VAT Specialist plays a crucial role within the finance department of an organization, ensuring adherence to Value Added Tax regulations. This role is essential in maintaining compliance with complex tax laws, preparing accurate tax returns, and optimizing tax positions. The VAT Specialist must analyze financial data related to VAT, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in reporting. Communication skills are necessary for liaising with tax authorities and internal departments. This position is pivotal to avoid potential tax liabilities and maximize financial efficiency related to VAT. The role requires a keen eye for detail and thorough understanding of national and international VAT legislation.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit accurate VAT returns in accordance with regulatory deadlines.
  • Analyze financial transactions to ensure correct VAT treatment and reporting.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global VAT regulations and legislative changes.
  • Advise the finance team on VAT matters to ensure compliance and optimization.
  • Liaise with external tax consultants to resolve complex VAT issues accurately.
  • Conduct regular audits to verify the accuracy of posted VAT transactions.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to streamline VAT reporting processes efficiently.
  • Review and reconcile VAT accounts to ensure all discrepancies are addressed.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from tax authorities and provide necessary documentation.
  • Assist in VAT risk assessment and help develop strategies to mitigate potential risks.
  • Prepare documentation to support the company's VAT position during audits and inspections.
  • Deliver VAT training sessions to ensure staff awareness and understanding of tax issues.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a VAT-related role is required.
  • In-depth understanding of local and international VAT legislation and practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and tax preparation tools efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with auditors and tax authorities effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accuracy under tight deadlines.
