Job Description

The Health and Safety Officer ensures the implementation of effective health and safety policies and procedures across an organization. They identify potential hazards, conduct risk assessments, and develop strategies to mitigate risks. The officer promotes a culture of safety, provides advice and training to employees, and ensures compliance with health and safety regulations.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures based on legal requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments of work areas to identify potential hazards.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on safety procedures and practices.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs, making improvements where necessary.
  • Collaborate with management to develop emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, and safety-related activities.
  • Stay updated with industry regulations and changes in health and safety legislation.
  • Provide expert advice to management on health and safety matters.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with employees, fostering a culture of safety and accountability.

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), are desirable.
  • Proven experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a similar industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent understanding of risk assessment methodologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Proficiency in using health and safety software and tools.
