An HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing health, safety, and environmental programs at various sites, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This role involves collaborating with management to establish and enforce standards, policies, and procedures essential for maintaining a safe work environment. The HSE Engineer conducts risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and works to mitigate them effectively, ensuring that all operations comply with local and federal safety regulations. Additionally, an HSE Engineer provides training and guidance to employees to promote a culture of safety and environmental awareness. They play a pivotal role in incident investigations, offering technical expertise to resolve issues and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to fostering a safe and healthy workplace.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain health, safety, and environmental programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits of facilities to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Identify potential hazards and develop strategies for risk mitigation on site.
  • Collaborate with management to integrate safety into operational planning and processes.
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained and readily accessible at all times.
  • Track and report on health, safety, and environmental metrics and performance indicators.
  • Develop emergency response plans and lead regular emergency drills as needed.
  • Keep abreast of new regulations and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Coordinate with external agencies during inspections or audits to demonstrate compliance.
  • Advocate for a safety-first culture, emphasizing continuous improvement among all employees.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in health, safety, or environmental engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations is required.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in evaluating safety data.
  • Proficient in risk assessment methodologies and safety management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective safety training and reporting tasks.
  • Certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) is highly preferred.
