Job Description

The role of an Assistant Financial Controller is pivotal within an organization's finance department. This position acts as the right-hand to the Financial Controller, ensuring that all financial activities align with the company's strategic goals and objectives. The Assistant Financial Controller manages the finance team's daily operations, leading efforts to maintain accurate financial records, analyze data, and prepare financial reports. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while coordinating with various departments. The Assistant Financial Controller also plays a critical role in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning, providing valuable insights to enhance fiscal performance and operational efficiency. In addition, the Assistant Financial Controller ensures compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations and accounting standards.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the Financial Controller in preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements and reports.
  • Oversee daily financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Lead the development and implementation of financial systems and processes improvements.
  • Supervise the finance team, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Coordinate and participate in budget preparation and forecasting activities.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, cost savings, and efficiency improvements.
  • Assist in the preparation of audit documents and coordinate with external auditors as required.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including department heads and external partners.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Monitor and report on cash flow, assisting with liquidity management strategies.
  • Keep updated on changes to financial regulations and recommend policy adjustments as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in finance or accounting roles.
  • Professional certification such as CPA or CMA is highly desirable.
  • Proven knowledge of financial regulations and accounting principles is essential.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in supervising and mentoring staff members.
  • Proficient in financial management software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders efficiently.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying financial issues.
