Job Description

A General Practitioner (GP) is a medical doctor who is trained to diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases and injuries that commonly occur in the general population. They are often the first point of contact for patients needing health care, and they work in a variety of settings, including clinics, private practices, and hospitals. As a GP, you will be responsible for checking and improving the health of your patients, managing acute conditions, and liaising with other healthcare professionals to ensure patient care continuity. The role demands a compassionate approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively to provide comprehensive patient care. In addition to treating illnesses, GPs need to focus on preventative health measures and may also be involved in educating patients about healthy lifestyles, conducting annual health screenings, and carrying out immunizations.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough examinations to diagnose chronic and acute medical conditions.
  • Prescribe medications and recommend lifestyle changes to manage health concerns.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient medical records and histories.
  • Administer basic health screenings and annual health assessments for patients.
  • Provide referrals to specialists when specific treatments or diagnostics are necessary.
  • Educate patients and their families on health management and disease prevention.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures and wound care when needed in practice settings.
  • Manage a caseload of patients and coordinate their long-term health care plans.
  • Participate in ongoing professional training and continued medical education sessions.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Respond promptly to emergency healthcare situations with appropriate interventions.
  • Advise on community health initiatives and participate in public health education.

Requirements

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution and valid medical license.
  • Completion of a residency program in family medicine or similar specialization.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and ability to manage a variety of health conditions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for patient interaction.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care and treatment.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems and healthcare technologies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
