Job Description

We are seeking a qualified Fire & Life Safety (FLS) Engineer to join its Tenant Fit-Out Management Team. The FLS Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring all tenant fit-out works comply with local fire and life safety regulations, international best practices, and internal safety standards. The role involves reviewing technical submittals, liaising with regulatory authorities, and providing guidance to tenants, consultants, and contractors from design through to handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve fire and life safety designs, drawings, and calculations submitted by tenants and their consultants.
  • Ensure all FLS aspects of tenant fit-outs comply with UAE Civil Defence codes, NFPA standards, and the clients fit-out guidelines.
  • Conduct technical reviews of fire alarm, fire suppression, emergency lighting, fire compartmentation, and evacuation systems.
  • Coordinate with Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) for permit applications, inspections, and final approvals.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify proper installation of FLS systems and resolve non-conformities or compliance gaps.
  • Support internal teams and external stakeholders in identifying fire safety risks and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with fire watch, hot works permits, and temporary life safety measures during construction.
  • Provide technical advice during value engineering, design changes, and interface coordination with base-build systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of approvals, inspection reports, and authority communications.
  • Contribute to fire drills, emergency response planning, and tenant onboarding procedures from a safety perspective.

Skills, Knowledge And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5–7 years of experience in fire & life safety engineering, preferably within tenant fit-outs, retail, mixed-use, or commercial developments.
  • Solid understanding of UAE Civil Defence regulations, NFPA codes, and Dubai’s building and safety codes.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating with DCD for design NOCs, inspections, and final approvals.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and knowledge of fire modelling, hydraulic calculations, and fire alarm integration.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Dubai Civil Defence accreditation is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
