Job Description

An Estimator and Cost Controller plays a critical role in any organization, particularly within the construction, engineering, and manufacturing industries. This position involves evaluating project costs, preparing estimates, analyzing financial risks, and controlling actual expenditures against budgeted costs. The professional in this role must meticulously assess the required resources, labor costs, materials, and overall time necessary for project completion, thereby ensuring projects are completed within the allocated budget and timeframe. This role requires a keen eye for detail, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. As a vital player in financial planning, the Estimator and Cost Controller helps organizations optimize their financial resources, improve profitability, and achieve strategic goals.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects by analyzing plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to collect and assess project information.
  • Develop budgets by estimating labor, materials, and construction time within project timelines.
  • Monitor cost performance against budget to identify and analyze variances.
  • Conduct cost analysis and support project managers in budgetary planning and risk management.
  • Provide detailed reports to management on project cost status and cost trends.
  • Manage changes in project scope by reviewing change requests and associated cost impacts.
  • Consult with vendors and subcontractors to obtain accurate cost information and negotiate contracts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key project stakeholders to ensure effective cost communication.
  • Maintain a database of historical project costs and update estimating standards as necessary.
  • Recommend cost-saving solutions without compromising project quality and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, finance, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in cost estimating or cost control roles.
  • Proficiency in using estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills for effective financial assessments.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with various project stakeholders.
  • Proven organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
