Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in the construction industry, managing all costs and contracts associated with building projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. This professional is responsible for minimizing the costs of a project while achieving the required standards and quality. The Quantity Surveyor is involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, including initial feasibility studies, tendering, construction process, and post-construction analysis. They must have a strong analytical mind, excellent numerical skills, and an in-depth understanding of both commercial and residential building projects. As a hybrid specialist in finances and construction, the Quantity Surveyor ensures that complex projects stay on budget, on schedule, and within agreed parameters. They work closely with architects, contractors, and clients, providing expert advice and forecasts to optimize investment in projects.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage project cost estimates during all phases of the construction process.
  • Evaluate project specifications and draw up detailed cost plans and budgetary assessments.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee the tender process, ensuring fair pricing and contractual obligations are met.
  • Conduct cost analysis and forecast future expenditures on upcoming projects.
  • Manage procurement of materials and negotiate terms with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project progress and provide detailed financial reports and updates to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and construction regulations and best practice standards.
  • Collaborate with project management teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and budget.
  • Prepare and process payment applications for work completed by contractors.
  • Assess, analyze, and resolve disputes and claims relating to project costs.
  • Advise management on strategy and efficiency improvements for project portfolios.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional accreditation such as RICS or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in quantity surveying or a similar role.
  • Exceptional analytical and numerical skills with financial management expertise.
  • Proficiency in construction or project management software such as AutoCAD or BIM.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and negotiate effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail, thoroughness, and ability to multitask under pressure.
