Job Description

The E-commerce Accounting & Compliance position is a crucial role in managing and overseeing all accounting and compliance functions related to online business activities. This position is responsible for ensuring that all financial records are accurate and up-to-date, while also ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The successful candidate will work closely with various departments, such as sales, marketing, and IT, to streamline accounting processes and ensure that e-commerce transactions are recorded correctly. They will also play a key role in preparing financial reports, maintaining internal controls, and coordinating audits and reviews. A deep understanding of e-commerce platforms and accounting software will be vital to succeed in this role, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. The role demands excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the capability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all e-commerce transactions in financial statements.
  • Coordinate with the sales and marketing teams to integrate sales platforms with accounting systems.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard e-commerce financial data and transactions.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports specific to online trading activities and performance.
  • Manage compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations regarding online sales.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of payment gateways and bank accounts related to e-commerce transactions.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns and other regulatory documents.
  • Stay updated with changes in e-commerce legislation and ensure company compliance accordingly.
  • Support external and internal audit processes by providing necessary e-commerce financial data.
  • Identify areas for process improvement in e-commerce accounting and implement effective solutions.
  • Work with IT to ensure cybersecurity measures protect e-commerce financial information.
  • Train and support junior staff in e-commerce accounting processes and compliance issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in e-commerce.
  • Strong understanding of e-commerce platforms and associated financial processes.
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal e-commerce compliance regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and high attention to detail to manage complex datasets.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
