Job Description

The Junior Payroll Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of payroll functions within an organization. This entry-level position requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a passion for numbers. As a Junior Payroll Accountant, you will be responsible for assisting in the processing and handling of payroll. This includes managing employee data, processing payroll transactions, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll for employees.
  • Accurately compute hours worked and apply appropriate deductions and withholdings.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure all employee information is up to date.
  • Assist in the distribution of paychecks and manage direct deposit transactions.
  • Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and provide timely resolutions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Compile summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, and benefits for management review.
  • Collaborate with HR to reconcile discrepancies between payroll and timekeeping data.
  • Assist in the preparation of payroll audit reports as required by management.
  • Support the finance team in year-end tax reporting and filing activities.
  • Stay updated on changes in payroll systems and software to optimize payroll processing.
  • Participate in payroll training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or related field is required.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll management software applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in all tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with employees and management teams.
  • Understanding of federal and state payroll laws and regulations is beneficial.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
