Job Description

The role of a Quantity Surveyor is pivotal in the construction industry, where they manage all aspects of the contractual, financial, and cost management of construction projects. A Quantity Surveyor is responsible for ensuring that construction projects remain within budget, providing accurate estimates, and overseeing project finances from inception to completion. They work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure project costs are managed effectively and budgets are adhered to. The Quantity Surveyor also plays a key role in risk management, identifying potential financial risks and implementing measures to mitigate them. They are involved in contract administration and procurement processes, negotiating with contractors and suppliers to ensure optimal resource allocation. As a Quantity Surveyor, you are expected to possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the construction process and related legal issues.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive costs analysis and budgets for construction projects by estimating various resources.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to ensure that proposed projects are financially viable and optimal.
  • Monitor construction costs to ensure that projects remain within budget and provide cost reports.
  • Engage in contract administration, including preparing, negotiating, and managing contracts with clients and vendors.
  • Advise clients on contractual claims and provide support in dispute resolution processes.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to align financial goals and project objectives.
  • Manage tendering processes, including preparing tender documents and analyzing tenders received from contractors.
  • Coordinate with architects and engineers to ensure accurate cost forecasting and financial planning.
  • Oversee the valuation of completed work, ensuring compliance with project specifications and budget constraints.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation for auditing, reporting, and future reference purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, estimation techniques, and contract management.
  • Proficient in using construction management software and costing tools for accurate project estimations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail for precise cost analysis and reporting.
  • Strong negotiation skills to engage with contractors and suppliers on contractual terms and pricing.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with project stakeholders and provide financial advice.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Experience in risk management and implementing cost-control measures on construction projects.
