Job Description

The Logistics Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective supply chain operations of an organization. This position involves planning, overseeing, and coordinating the logistics operations of the company, which include transportation, warehousing, and distribution activities. A Logistics Officer must possess excellent organizational and communication skills to manage inventories, negotiate transportation rates, and ensure timely delivery of goods. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations and optimizing logistical procedures to enhance operational effectiveness. The role requires a proactive problem solver who can manage logistics networks efficiently and maximize customer satisfaction by ensuring that products are delivered on time and in excellent condition.


Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the daily logistics and short-term tactical logistics planning activities.
  • Monitor and report on transportation costs to ensure they are within budget.
  • Manage and maintain inventories in warehouses to ensure efficient stock levels.
  • Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to secure advantageous terms and rates.
  • Ensure the correct and timely delivery of products to the intended destination.
  • Prepare regular reports on logistical performance and suggest improvements when necessary.
  • Manage personnel within the logistics department, ensuring adherence to company policies.
  • Handle emergency logistics requests and plan for unanticipated operational challenges efficiently.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients and stakeholders for smooth operations.
  • Implement safety procedures and protocols to ensure compliance and minimize liability.
  • Oversee contract negotiations with shipping and freight companies for competitive rates.
  • Identify and rectify inefficiencies within the logistics process to reduce costs and waste.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a logistics or supply chain role.
  • Proficient in logistics software systems and data management applications.
  • Excellent organizational, negotiation, and communication skills are essential for success.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines consistently.
  • Strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail to improve processes.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for transportation and logistics operations.
