Elevator Technician (225-724)

As an Elevator Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of elevators, escalators, and similar equipment. You will work in a variety of settings including residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Your role is crucial in ensuring that these transportation systems are functioning efficiently and safely for the users. You must have a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, as well as the ability to follow safety practices and regulations. You should be comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights, and be prepared to be on call for emergency repairs. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Install new elevator systems and upgrade existing ones as required.
• Regularly inspect elevator equipment and identify potential safety issues.
• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure optimal functioning of elevator systems.
• Diagnose malfunctions and troubleshoot mechanical, electronic, and electrical issues.
• Repair and replace defective parts in the elevator and escalator systems.
• Complete installations by adjusting counterweights, replacing motors, and modifying control systems.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair work performed on equipment.
• Test newly installed or repaired equipment for proper performance and compliance with safety regulations.
• Respond to emergency calls for malfunctioning or stuck elevators on a rotating on-call schedule.
• Collaborate with building owners and managers to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards.
• Provide regular training and guidance to junior technicians and apprentices.
• Keep abreast of industry developments and new technologies relevant to elevator systems.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
• Completion of a technical training program or apprenticeship for elevator technicians.
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems and components.
• Proficiency with reading and interpreting blueprints and technical diagrams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential.
• Ability to work independently and handle physical demands of the job.
• Relevant certification or licensing in accordance with state and local regulations.
