Job Description

The Credit Manager is a crucial role within the financial sector, responsible for overseeing the credit granting process, including the consistent application of a credit policy, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, and the assessment of the creditworthiness of potential customers. This role is central to securing the financial stability of the organization by ensuring that credit risk is minimized while maximizing the company’s sales and profit potential. The Credit Manager will work closely with various departments, including sales, finance, and customer service, to ensure optimal credit and collections processes. This position requires a firm understanding of credit analysis, the ability to interpret financial statements, and strong communication skills to liaise effectively with all stakeholders involved. 


Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive credit policies and procedures.
  • Conduct thorough credit assessments of potential and existing clients.
  • Evaluate clients' creditworthiness using financial data and credit reports.
  • Lead credit risk management processes to minimize financial exposure.
  • Coordinate with sales and finance departments to improve credit operations.
  • Monitor credit limits and terms to ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Approve or decline credit requests within designated limits of authority.
  • Manage and optimize the accounts receivable portfolio.
  • Negotiate payment plans and handle debt settlements with customers.
  • Prepare detailed credit reports to support decision-making processes.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant regulations and legislation in credit processes.
  • Train and mentor junior staff in credit assessment and management practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in credit management or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of credit administration principles and financial analysis.
  • Proven experience with credit risk assessment and financial data interpretation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills are essential.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion and integrity.
  • Proficiency in credit and ERP software systems to streamline processes.
