Job Description

A Quantity Estimator plays a pivotal role in the construction and civil engineering industry. The professional is primarily responsible for analyzing construction projects to estimate the materials and labor needed to complete a project successfully. Quantity Estimators work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and project managers to interpret blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to produce comprehensive project estimates. This role demands precision, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of construction processes. By ensuring that estimates are as accurate as possible, Quantity Estimators help prevent cost overruns and ensure projects remain within budget. Their expertise significantly contributes to strategic planning and decision-making processes within the construction industry, making them an indispensable resource for any construction project.


Responsibilities

  • Analyze project plans and specifications to develop detailed material quantity estimates.
  • Collaborate with project managers and architects to gather pertinent construction project data.
  • Prepare cost estimates by calculating various project components, including labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Review and interpret engineering blueprints to ensure accurate estimating and project execution.
  • Monitor changes throughout the project lifecycle and adjust estimates as necessary.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to secure accurate material pricing information.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on estimated project costs and budget forecasts.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all project estimates and revisions.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders to discuss estimation findings and recommendations.
  • Perform risk analysis to identify potential cost overruns and scheduling delays.
  • Utilize estimating software tools and databases to improve the speed and accuracy of estimates.
  • Regularly update project estimates to reflect new information and changes in project scope.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in quantity estimating or related role.
  • Proficiency in interpreting construction blueprints and technical drawings is essential.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
  • Familiarity with construction estimating software such as CostX, PlanSwift, or similar.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and stakeholder discussions.
  • Detail-oriented mindset to ensure accuracy in all project estimates and calculations.
