Job Overview

The Lead/Senior/Principal Thermal System Design Engineer will be responsible for thermal analysis, secondary air system, and oil system design and analysis for gas turbine components within turbojet and turbofan development programs. This role requires expert knowledge in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and gas turbine propulsion, along with strong project planning skills and the ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform component thermal analysis simulations for thermal mapping of the engine.
  • Conduct steady and transient thermal and secondary flow assessments in gas turbine engine components.
  • Carry out sizing and design studies for the oil/lubrication system, seals, sump, bearings, and pumps.
  • Develop numerical and experimental methods for method verification and validation.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers, providing constructive feedback.
  • Review designs, simulations, and generate testing guidelines.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in gas turbine propulsion, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 5–15+ years of experience in thermal system design for gas turbine engines.

Skills

  • Expertise in one or a combination of: thermal analysis, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, oil/lubrication systems.
  • Proficiency with commercial tools such as Ansys Workbench or equivalent.
  • Experience in FEA, CFD, or lower-order simulation methods.
  • Experience with 1D flow network software such as Flomaster or Amesim.
  • Programming experience in C, Matlab/Simulink, or similar tools.
  • Awareness of state-of-the-art materials, aerodynamics, and structural mechanics applied to gas turbine thermal system design.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to collaborate with team members, clients, and vendors.
  • Strong problem-solving, task prioritization, and delegation abilities.
