Job Description

The role of a Manager Retail Buying is a pivotal position in the retail sector, responsible for procuring the best merchandise to meet consumer demands while ensuring profitability and alignment with the company’s strategic goals. This role requires a candidate who can combine strong analytical skills with keen market insights to drive purchasing decisions that help to boost sales, enhance product offerings, and ultimately improve the customer experience. The Manager Retail Buying will work closely with vendors and internal teams to negotiate terms, analyze sales trends, and make informed inventory decisions. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for retail, a talent for negotiation and a knack for understanding consumer trends and behaviors.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective buying strategies to meet company sales objectives.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure advantageous terms that benefit the company financially.
  • Analyze consumer buying patterns and predict future trends to inform buying decisions.
  • Manage, evaluate, and optimize inventory levels to ensure sufficient stock and reduce overstock.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, merchandising, and marketing departments.
  • Monitor product and market trends to stay ahead of consumer demands and competitors.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, including quarterly and annual reporting on purchasing decisions.
  • Assess and select new products or suppliers based on quality, price, and market suitability.
  • Establish strong relationships with vendors to negotiate mutually beneficial agreements.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of product lines and industry standards and practices.
  • Oversee and mentor junior buying staff to enhance team efficiency and performance.
  • Ensure all purchase activities comply with the company’s policies and ethical standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in retail buying or a similar field.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of securing beneficial deals.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Familiarity with market trends and a good grasp of consumer behavior patterns.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and other retail-related technologies.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team, providing guidance and support to junior members.
  • Strong organizational skills with the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A detail-oriented approach and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
