Job Description

A Pastry Commis plays a vital role in the pastry kitchen, contributing to the crafting of delightful baked goods and desserts. This role is perfect for individuals who have a passion for baking and are eager to learn and grow their skills within a professional kitchen environment. As a Pastry Commis, you will be working under the guidance of experienced pastry chefs, assisting in the preparation of various pastries, confections, and baked goods. This position offers an opportunity to explore the world of pastries, gain hands-on experience, and develop a deeper understanding of the pastry section in a restaurant or bakery. You will be expected to maintain high standards of quality and hygiene and enthusiastically support the team in delivering outstanding pastry products.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and baking of pastries, desserts, and bread.
  • Follow recipes and operational procedures to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry station at all times.
  • Measure and prepare ingredients according to the instructions from the pastry chef.
  • Assist in decorating cakes, cookies, and other pastry creations.
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned properly and ready for the next use.
  • Assist in inventory management by monitoring stocks and placing orders timely.
  • Learn and adhere to food safety standards and guidelines in the kitchen.
  • Support the pastry team in high-volume production during busy periods.
  • Participate in training sessions to improve your pastry skills and knowledge.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Help in creating new recipes under the supervision of the pastry chef.

Requirements

  • Basic experience or education in pastry or culinary arts is preferred.
  • Strong passion for baking and keen interest in culinary arts.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and learn quickly from supervisors.
  • Good verbal communication skills to interact with team members efficiently.
  • Physical stamina to stand and work in a kitchen for extended hours.
  • Knowledge of basic baking techniques and kitchen equipment handling.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food quality.
