The team
Our Sustainability Strategy Practice within S&T, helps clients monetize sustainability value by embedding it across business functions, operating models and value chains – leveraging a portfolio of targeted solutions to deliver real, measurable impact.
Acting as a trusted advisor to the C-suite, we provide the insights and guidance needed to drive shareholder value, resilience, and long-term competitiveness in a rapidly evolving sustainability landscape. Our professionals bring deep expertise in sustainability, abatement, value measurement, strategy, transformation, and equity, applying these disciplines to accelerate both environmental and social progress.
Work you will do
As part of our Sustainability Strategy Practice, you will be expected to contribute to both client impact and the growth of the firm:
- Work with clients to design and deliver strategies that embed sustainability at the core of their business—covering strategy & growth and operations & value realization.
- Lead defined workstreams within larger client engagements, ensuring high-quality outputs and timely delivery.
- Conduct opportunity identification, market and competitive assessments, and sustainability value measurement to support growth, cost, and risk strategies.
- Develop and operationalize solutions across decarbonization, net zero transition, energy transformation, equity, nature-based, and circularity initiatives.
- Translate complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders and the C-suite.
- Collaborate with practice leadership to support business development through proposals, client workshops, and industry presentations.
- Contribute to Deloitte’s sustainability thought leadership by developing points of view, whitepapers, and innovative frameworks.
- Mentor and coach junior practitioners, contributing to capability building within the team.
- Support the continuous improvement of Deloitte’s sustainability tools, assets, and methodologies.
Required Experience And Skills
- Experience working with / advising leading companies on sustainability strategy and transformation, ideally with exposure to global clients and complex, multi-stakeholder environments
- Hands-on expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Corporate Strategy, Go-to-market (GTM) Strategy, Growth Strategy, Market Research / Assessment, Business Case Development
- Sustainability strategy, net zero targets setting and transition planning, decarbonation pathways, carbon markets and commercialization, circularity, waste management, energy transformation, nature-based solutions, equity, lifecycle assessment, regenerative agriculture, carbon measurement and accounting, hydrogen and alternative fuels’ experience, climate risk and resilience.
- Strong knowledge of the evolving sustainability landscape – including global disclosure and reporting standards (SBTi, CSRD, ISSB, SEC etc.), regulatory trends, and sector specific requirements – with ability to translate these into actionable strategies for the clients.
- Hands-on experience with key tools/solutions such as Microsoft Sustainability Manager, Watershed, Persefoni, IBM Envizi, Siemens SIMATIC Energy Manager, PLEXOS etc.
- Exposure to working in non-India geographies (preferably US) and / or interacting with global stakeholders
Core Consulting Skills Needed
- Ability to develop understanding of new topics quickly; conduct targeted research and derive insights relevant for client
- Clear and concise communication – ability to articulate thoughts well, ask relevant questions – be able to participate in team discussions (both internally and with clients)
- Good client presence – interact and build relationships with clients and other team members, conduct client interviews, participate in workshops/trainings and present recommendations
- Analytical thinking - ability to perform detailed, quantitative analysis and research (primary and secondary). Synthesize and present insights and recommendations from data.
- Logical structuring - structured approach to problem solving and ability to perform root cause analysis of client problems
- Deadline-oriented and quality focused - develop and own development of deliverables. Own and manage specific work-thread, develop plans for components of engagement, manage and mentor junior resources
- Collaboration - Be able to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels. Be able to prioritize tasks, manage change in scope, work on multiple assignments, and raise concerns/questions where appropriate
- Network - ability to chart one’s own career and build networks within the organization
Required Qualifications
- MBA or other Master’s degree from a premier (Tier-1) school in India or abroad
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience (post MS / MBA), including focus on sustainability
- Sustainability focused specializations or certificate programs (e.g. Sustainable Agriculture, Water Resource Management, ESG Certification, CSRS from reputed institutions) are good-to- have
