Job Description

The Staff Nurse (Operating Theatre) plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the operating room by providing direct patient care, assisting surgical teams, and maintaining a sterile environment. This position requires specialized knowledge of surgical procedures and nursing practices. As a Staff Nurse in the Operating Theatre, you will collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver the highest quality of care to surgical patients. Your responsibilities will also involve prepping patients and equipment, managing inventory, and adhering to strict protocols and guidelines to promote safety and efficiency. Communication, anticipation, and attention to detail are key to succeeding in this role. This is a fulfilling position that demands both technical skills and empathetic patient care.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain the operating room to ensure a sterile environment.
  • Assist surgeons and anesthetists during surgical procedures to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Monitor and document the patient's vital signs throughout the surgical process.
  • Ensure accurate counting and management of surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Coordinate with healthcare team members to provide seamless surgical care and support.
  • Administer prescribed medications and intravenous infusions during surgery.
  • Educate patients and families about pre-operative and post-operative care procedures.
  • Contribute to policy development by recommending improvements in practice standards.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge to troubleshoot unexpected operating room situations.
  • Maintain accurate records and report any incidents to the surgical team leaders.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to keep abreast of current medical practices.
  • Support infection control procedures to prevent complications post-surgery.

Requirements

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a current valid nursing license.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in an operating room setting.
  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures and operating room protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients and team members.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced hospital environment.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Detail-oriented professional committed to maintaining high standards of patient care.
