Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor (Steel Structure) plays a vital role in the construction industry by managing all costs related to building and civil engineering projects. Specializing in steel structures, this professional ensures that projects are completed within financial guidelines while maintaining high standards. The Quantity Surveyor must provide cost analysis, prepare tender documents, and oversee projects from start to finish to ensure that the best value for money is achieved. This role involves significant interaction with clients, contractors, and design teams, requiring excellent negotiation and communication skills. A successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of construction methods and materials, paired with the ability to manage budgets and resources effectively in high-pressure environments.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for steel structure projects ensuring accuracy and comprehensiveness.
  • Analyze project specifications and drawings to assess material and labor requirements.
  • Prepare and manage procurement budget plans to align with project objectives.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Conduct site visits to track progress, identify cost variances, and update project budgets.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities and scope of work.
  • Review and evaluate contractor claims and variations, providing recommendations for adjustments.
  • Collaborate with project managers and architects to optimize design efficiencies and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate records of project costs and financial progress for regular reporting to stakeholders.
  • Advise stakeholders on adherence to regulatory and industry standards, minimizing risks and liabilities.
  • Identify potential financial risks within projects and develop strategies for their mitigation.
  • Coordinate with legal, finance, and operational teams for seamless project execution and closure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven work experience as a Quantity Surveyor specializing in steel structures.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and legal regulations.
  • Excellent numerical skills with the ability to manage budgets and financial details.
  • Proficiency in using costing and financial management software tools.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills for effective stakeholder management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in fast-paced environments.
  • Competency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
