Job Description

The role of a Project Quantity Surveyor is critical in the construction and architectural industries. This professional is responsible for managing all costs associated with building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. They seek to minimize costs while ensuring quality standards, assessing project risks, and ensuring compliance with statutory building regulations. A Project Quantity Surveyor works with contractors and suppliers to negotiate contracts, value work, and ensure that budgets are managed effectively. They play a pivotal role in delivering projects on time and within budget, often working closely with architects and engineers to arrive at the best outcomes. Communication and negotiation skills are vital, as they deal with a range of people, from clients and architects to subcontractors and suppliers.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
  • Conduct risk analysis to identify potential cost overruns and mitigate risks.
  • Liaise with architects, engineers, and clients to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Monitor changes to the design and assess their impact on the project's cost.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve cost-effective solutions.
  • Assess contractor performance and ensure work is delivered to agreed standards.
  • Manage project costs throughout the lifecycle, ensuring financial targets are maintained.
  • Prepare reports, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities, and other documentation.
  • Advise the project team on legal and contractual matters affecting project delivery.
  • Conduct valuations to assess the progress of work and authorise payments.
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop a comprehensive project schedule.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in all project phases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional accreditation such as RICS or CIOB is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in quantity surveying or construction management.
  • Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to work effectively with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard software for quantity surveying tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
