Job description:
Job Purpose
Provide technical expertise on all relevant Flight Ops Performance Engineering aspects, including but not limited to aircraft performance, weight and balance, engine out procedures, aircraft documentation, aircraft modifications, operations planning and optimization, fuel conservation, operating cost optimization and aircraft evaluation and testing. This role is also the focal for Airbus performance tools, to strive to improve the performance & efficiency of our operation.
Key Result ResponsibilitiesKey activities:
1. Provide technical advice and assistance on all aspects of Aircraft Performance Engineering
2. Contribute to performance documentation technical content, customization, revision and production in relevant published manuals and support material
3. Ensure that regulated performance for Take-off, En-route and Landing are monitored and revised on a regular basis:
a) Takeoff
- Constant monitoring and updating of airport database
- Design, validation and implementation of Engine Out procedures
- NOTAM assessment and implementation configuration and maintenance of the electronic performance tool
b) En-route
- Validation as appropriate of escape procedures for Drift down and Depressurization
c) Landing
- Constant monitoring and updating of airport database
- Configuration and maintenance of the electronic performance tool
- Research and apply methods to increase weights from landing performance penalties
4. Monitors and analyzes the Flight Planning System database constantly to ensure its adequacy, accuracy and compliance with the Civil Aviation Authority rules and regulations, ICAO adopted procedures, as well as Airlines policies and procedures and Standard Operations Manual.
5. Monitors the NOTAMs performance & implementation constantly; complies with all necessary regulatory publications such as AIP and Notams that may arise and affect the area of operation whilst ensuring the LIDO Flight Planning system is operating in accordance with regulatory and AIP requirements.
6. Identifies limitations on operational capabilities such as Notams, Navigation facilities, Air Traffic flow, aircraft performance and Mel requirements, in line with business requirements and in accordance with Company’s and civil aviation international regulatory guidelines and standards; suggests remedial solutions where applicable.
7. Ensures that non normal procedures, or dispatch under MEL items that affect aircraft performance are analyzed and proper guidance produced for crew and Dispatch.
8. Contribute to Weight and Balance aspects for our client, including but not limited to:
a) AHM560/565 data construction and validation
b) Load and Trim sheet production and validation
c) In Service modification and reweigh calculation and validation
9. Supports in Electronic Flight Bag System and troubleshooting issues and updates database as and when required.
10. Reviews Airfield Type A and B Obstacle Charts for analysis and conducts airport feasibility study.
11. Acts as Aircraft Performance Monitoring focal, to ensure that back office and aircraft systems accurately reflect aircraft performance degradation; calculates the performance data for all aircrafts and generates aircraft performance degradation.
12. Monitors the ETOPS constantly and generates reports as required.
13. Ensure each new route and new destination is assessed and evaluated for safe and efficient operation and conducts safety risk assessment and provides technical evaluation in terms feasibility.
14. Support all company’s new projects related to aircraft performance and operation efficiency
Data Maintenance:
1. Monitors the flight plans on daily basis to highlight any irregular matters related to data maintenance and coordinates with LIDO to implement corrective measures accordingly.
2. Acts proactively and supports the Flight Dispatch and Flight Crew by loading the flight plans into the Flight Planning System and by providing them with accurate and timely updates on flights changes.
3. Cooperates with Dispatch and Information Technology teams to handle and control all data affecting the Flight Planning System such as new versions, patches, outages, maintenance, etc.
4. Utilizes data, reports, and feedback from various sources to conduct analysis and monitor the operational performance of routes based on different criteria. Generates reports to management to highlight the performance of routes to assist them take decisions on commercial objectives.
5. Assists in identifying the company’s most cost-effective routes with focus on improving fuel consumption and over flying costs taking into account safety, regulatory compliance and customer comfort.
6. Employs all possible tools and channels, during disruptions and emergencies, to convey and maintain necessary safety related information and data to ensure safe conduct of the flights, and applies procedures prescribed in the Operations Manual whilst ensuring abidance by Civil Aviation Authority and Air Traffic Procedures.
7. Stays updated with changes to Company’s manuals, Aircraft Manufacturer’s publications, State’s or other regulatory bodies’ publications.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT/Math/Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university is highly desirable for this role.
- A diploma in a related field is acceptable if combined with necessary working experience and a track of record.
- Must have completed “Performance Engineering” training from Airbus or other manufacturer.
- Deep understanding of the software development process and applicable PE tools – Performance Center and diagnostic tools.
- Broad performance engineering tool experience (Wily, Compuware, IBM-Filenet/Websphere Portal, dynaTrace, HP, etc.)
- Understanding of database technologies – SQL, Oracel, Exadata, etc.
- Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel), Internet, Web Search
- Good in written and verbal communication skills, Technical reports writing, presentations, etc.
- Fluent in English Language.
• 5+ years of experience in a comparable airlines or aircraft manufacturer company in the operations/engineering department as an approved or licensed Engineer/ Flight Dispatcher; experience with low cost airline is preferred.
• Broad performance engineering experience (modelling, tuning, diagnostics, monitoring, etc.)
• Comprehensive knowledge in the regulations of the Civil Aviation Authorities and regulatory bodies, familiar with rules and regulations of local Civil Aviation Authority, ICAO, CAR, FAR, JAR, and IOSA pertaining to Flight Operations and working procedures.
• Exposure to QA/Safety/Security and practices related to and affecting Flight Operations.
• Capable of applying policies, procedures as per approved standards and regulations.
• Comfortable working in a matrix environment
• Capable to perform in a changing environment with heavy work-load schedules and ad-hoc scenarios.
• Proven skills in analysing data, identifying pitfalls and recommending alternatives.
• Performs with high accuracy and attention to details.
• Quick learner and self-starter who requires minimal supervision to excel in a dynamic environment
