Job Description

An Orthodontist is a specialized dental professional focused on diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities. This role requires expertise in creating treatment plans to align teeth and jaws to achieve optimal function and aesthetics. An Orthodontist works closely with patients of all ages, addressing conditions such as crowded teeth, overbites, underbites, and incorrect jaw alignment. These professionals must possess exceptional communication skills to explain treatment options and care plans effectively to patients and their families. As an Orthodontist, one must maintain high standards of patient care and stay current with advancements in orthodontic technologies and methodologies.


Responsibilities

  • Diagnose dental conditions and recommend appropriate orthodontic treatment plans.
  • Create customized dental appliances, such as braces, aligners, and retainers, for patients.
  • Monitor and adjust orthodontic appliances for patients throughout the treatment duration.
  • Evaluate dental impressions, photographs, and X-rays to determine patient needs.
  • Educate patients and guardians on oral hygiene practices and appliance maintenance.
  • Collaborate with general dentists and other dental specialists for comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain detailed patient records including treatment plans and progress notes.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments and techniques in orthodontics and dental therapy.
  • Build and sustain excellent professional relationships with patients and their families.
  • Ensure the highest level of safety, cleanliness, and infection control standards in treatment areas.
  • Manage orthodontic aides and coordinate with support staff for efficient clinic operations.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities in the field.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree required.
  • Completion of an accredited orthodontic residency program is mandatory.
  • Licensed to practice as an orthodontist 
  • Proficient in using orthodontic software and dental record management systems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail to develop precise treatment plans.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality patient care and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and methods in orthodontics as the field evolves.
