Job Description

An Anesthesia Technician is an essential member of the healthcare team, working under the supervision of anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists to ensure the smooth operation of the anesthesia department. They are critical in supporting surgical procedures and managing anesthesia equipment, supplies, and medications. Skilled Anesthesia Technicians maintain and prepare anesthesia machines, monitor patient vitals, assist with patient preparation and positioning, and provide assistance during anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence phases. Their role is crucial in ensuring patient safety, comfort, and effective delivery of anesthesia services in various clinical settings such as hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, and dental surgery clinics.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain anesthesia equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Assist anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists with patient preparation and monitoring.
  • Ensure anesthesia machines are correctly calibrated and functioning properly.
  • Help position patients for surgery and prepare intravenous (IV) fluids.
  • Manage and track inventory of anesthesia drugs and supplies systematically.
  • Provide support during induction, maintenance, and emergence phases of anesthesia.
  • Respond promptly to any equipment malfunction or patient emergencies during procedures.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and restocks anesthesia machines and related equipment post-procedure.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed anesthesia patient records and logs.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Educate staff on the proper usage and maintenance of anesthesia-related equipment.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new protocols and improvements.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or certification in anesthesia technology is preferred.
  • Previous experience working as an Anesthesia Technician highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of anesthesia equipment, medications, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment during procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with the surgical and nursing teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on maintaining accurate records and logs.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations during operations.
