A Structural Design Engineer plays a crucial role in developing safe and efficient structures that withstand various loads and environmental conditions. This position requires a deep understanding of engineering principles, materials science, and construction methods to design innovative structural systems. The engineer will work on projects ranging from commercial and residential buildings to bridges and other infrastructure. Collaborating closely with architects, construction managers, and other stakeholders, the Structural Design Engineer ensures that designs meet client expectations and regulatory standards. This role is highly analytical, requiring proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and a keen eye for detail, to assess the feasibility and optimize the performance of structural designs. The engineer must be equipped to solve complex engineering problems, communicate effectively with project teams, and adhere to timelines and budget constraints. They are instrumental in pushing forward the design processes that ensure structures are both functional and sustainable, contributing significantly to the improvement of community spaces.


Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for structural projects using CAD software.
  • Analyze the static and dynamic loads to ascertain the safety criteria of structures.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to develop construction plans.
  • Review project specifications to ensure perfection in the design and construction phases.
  • Participate in field reviews, inspections, and investigations of existing structures and infrastructures.
  • Ensure that structural designs adhere to regulations, codes, and industry standards.
  • Prepare engineering calculations to verify accuracy and meet project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to inform the selection of materials for structures.
  • Assess project risks and propose solutions to mitigate potential design issues.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation for project stakeholders.
  • Oversee construction work to ensure adherence to design specifications and safety standards.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated with engineering advances.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in structural design or related fields.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software, such as AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, materials properties, and construction methods.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating structural integrity and design sustainability.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) certification is highly preferred but not mandatory.
