Job Description

Special education teachers play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities. They design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet students' unique learning needs and ensure their progress. Special education teachers collaborate with parents, other educators, and professionals to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. They provide direct instruction, modify curriculum, and use specialized teaching strategies to help students with disabilities reach their full potential.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Provide direct instruction to students using specialized teaching techniques and materials.
  • Modify general education curriculum to meet students' unique learning needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure inclusive and differentiated instruction.
  • Assess students' progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Provide support and accommodations for students during assessments and exams.
  • Collaborate with parents, therapists, and other professionals to coordinate services and interventions.
  • Monitor and track students' goals, achievements, and behavior.
  • Teach students social and life skills to promote independence and inclusion.
  • Stay current with research, best practices, and legislative changes in special education.

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in special education.
  • State certification or licensure as a special education teacher.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with different types of disabilities, including learning, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Ability to create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding of the unique challenges of students with disabilities.
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies and materials to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Experience with assistive technology and specialized instructional techniques.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
