Job Description

A Planning Engineer plays a crucial role in the successful execution of engineering projects. The position involves the development, evaluation, and implementation of project planning strategies and procedures to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. A Planning Engineer uses their expertise to anticipate potential problems, mitigate risks, and optimize the use of resources. They coordinate with engineering teams, stakeholders, and other professionals to streamline project workflows while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The role requires excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills to effectively plan, monitor, and report on project progress. A Planning Engineer not only contributes to the successful delivery of projects but also plays a key role in the continuous improvement of planning practices and methodologies.


Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive project plans and schedules, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Monitor project progress and performance, using advanced tracking tools and techniques.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure availability of materials and resources.
  • Prepare and present progress reports and update meetings with stakeholders regularly.
  • Identify potential risks and propose effective mitigation strategies to the project team.
  • Facilitate efficient communication among project members to resolve planning issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Adapt project plans as necessary in response to unforeseen challenges or changes.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of planning processes and templates for future projects.
  • Utilize project management software to enhance planning accuracy and efficiency.
  • Conduct project post-mortem reviews to identify areas for future improvement.
  • Assist in the preparation of project bids and proposals with accurate timeframes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or related field required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a planning or project engineering role.
  • Proficiency in project management software such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for stakeholder interaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Certification in Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent is a preferred asset.
