Kings’ School is seeking a skilled and passionate Occupational Therapist to join our outstanding Alternative Pathways team—our specialist provision supporting students with significant developmental and learning needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work with a diverse group of students from Foundation Stage to Secondary, many of whom require support in areas such as sensory regulation, fine and gross motor development, daily living skills, and classroom participation.
The Role Will Involve
Delivering 1:1 and group therapy for students with a wide range of physical, sensory, and developmental needs.
Creating and implementing individualised, functional therapy plans focused on improving independence, access to the curriculum, and school life.
Collaborating closely with the in-house Speech and Language Therapist, SEN teachers, and support staff.
Conducting assessments and observations to inform goal setting and provision planning.
Supporting teachers to adapt environments and tasks to meet the needs of pupils with sensory and motor challenges.
Planning and developing resources to support fine motor skills, sensory integration, and functional life skills.
Working closely with families to promote consistency between home and school. Consulting with parents regarding activities / strategies to use at home to assist with student development of physical skills, motor skills, and life skills.
Being an active and valued member of the Kings’ School community and contributing to the growth of the Alternative Pathways programme.
Plan and create customised therapy resources, sensory tools, and visual supports to meet individual student needs and enhance engagement in daily school routines.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
A recognised degree in Occupational Therapy.
Current DHA registration or eligibility to register (essential).
At least 2 years’ experience working with children and young people, ideally within educational or paediatric settings.
Strong knowledge of sensory processing, motor development, and life skills interventions.
Experience working with students with autism, developmental delays, or multiple learning needs.
Experience working in SEND schools and/or Centres.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent communication, organisation, and documentation skills.
A proactive, flexible, and compassionate approach to therapy and inclusive education.
Strong knowledge of sensory processing, motor development, Pre-academic skills, and emotional regulation interventions.
Advise staff on strategies, techniques, and accommodations to use in classroom settings
Provide in-service training & workshops to staff and community as needed.
Collaborate with private occupational or physical therapists in the community who provide services to school students.
Experienced in the assessment and treatment of Sensory Integration Differences.
Preferable experience using assessment tools such as: Sensory profiles, Sensory Processing Measure, BeeryVMI, BOT Movement Assessment Battery for Children (M-ABC), Test of Visual Perceptual Skills (TVPS), Ayres’ CLinical Observations, Griffiths.
Preferable experience in using PECS, Makaton, DIR Floortime, Intensive Interaction and the SCERTS system.
