Job Description

A Junior Payroll Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring that a company's payroll systems operate smoothly and efficiently. This position involves meticulous attention to detail, as it includes managing employee payroll data, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing, and compliance with relevant regulations and laws. The Junior Payroll Accountant will work closely with the HR and finance departments to handle employee benefits, prepare payroll-related reports, and assist in audits and process improvements. This role requires strong analytical skills and a dedication to maintaining confidentiality regarding payroll matters. An entry-level position in finance, this role serves as a stepping stone to more advanced payroll or accounting positions. Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for employees on a bi-weekly or monthly basis accurately.
  • Verify and reconcile payroll data to ensure accuracy in financial records.
  • Maintain and update employee records with payroll and personal information.
  • Assist in preparing reports related to payroll expenses and liabilities.
  • Coordinate with the HR department on payroll adjustments and amendments.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and laws.
  • Assist in the preparation for payroll audits and respond to any queries.
  • Handle payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies for employees.
  • Support the accounting team in month-end and year-end closing tasks.
  • Utilize payroll software to generate and analyze financial payroll data.
  • Collaborate with benefits administrators on benefits deduction calculations.
  • Participate in process improvement projects to enhance payroll efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in payroll or a related financial role.
  • Familiarity with payroll software and financial reporting tools is crucial.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with complex data sets.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy in work.
  • Good understanding of payroll best practices and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to handle sensitive payroll information with confidentiality and ethics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel for data analysis.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
