Job Description

An Import and Export Manager is a crucial role in the global trade sector, responsible for overseeing and managing all international inbound and outbound shipments in a company. This role demands a strong understanding of international trade laws, customs regulations, and the logistics involved in transporting goods across borders. The manager strategizes and implements procedures to ensure efficient import and export operations, aiming to optimize costs and delivery times. They interact with various stakeholders, including suppliers, logistics providers, customs officials, and customers, to ensure seamless operations. An Import and Export Manager must possess great leadership qualities to supervise the import/export team and have excellent communication skills to negotiate and resolve issues effectively.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic import and export plans to optimize efficiency.
  • Oversee and manage international shipping operations and logistics processes.
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations and international trade laws.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, and clients to maintain smooth operations.
  • Supervise, train, and guide the import/export team for effective performance.
  • Monitor shipment schedules, deliveries, and ensure timely transportation of goods.
  • Negotiate contracts and tariffs with external vendors and logistics providers.
  • Analyze market trends and regulatory changes impacting global trade and logistics.
  • Prepare and manage the import/export documentation and required permits.
  • Handle risk management and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with key clients and partners internationally.
  • Optimize cost-saving strategies while maintaining quality and timely deliveries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in import/export operations management.
  • Strong understanding of international trade laws and customs regulations.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to manage a diverse team effectively.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in logistics and supply chain management software tools.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and apply insights strategically.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Fluency in multiple languages is preferred to facilitate global communications.
