Job Description

As a Health and Safety Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees within the organization. Your main goal will be to implement and oversee organizational safety standards, mitigate potential health risks, and promote a culture of safety and compliance. You will be responsible for performing risk assessments, developing safety programs, and ensuring adherence to legislative requirements. You will work closely with various departments to integrate safety procedures into daily operations, providing necessary training and resources to staff. Your expertise will contribute to reducing accidents, handling emergency responses effectively, and continuously improving workplace safety practices.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective measures promptly.
  • Develop comprehensive safety policies and procedures in line with industry standards.
  • Perform risk assessments and ensure compliance with occupational safety regulations.
  • Organize and conduct training sessions on health and safety protocols for staff.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to determine causes and recommend preventive measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of workplace injuries, incidents, and health surveillance.
  • Collaborate with management to integrate safety objectives into business operations.
  • Ensure all safety equipment and systems are maintained and functioning effectively.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management on safety performance.
  • Stay updated on new legislation and best practices related to occupational health and safety.
  • Develop emergency response plans and ensure staff are well-versed in procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with government and regulatory bodies during safety audits or inspections.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health, or a related field.
  • Certification in health and safety management, such as NEBOSH or IOSH, is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Health and Safety Officer in a similar industry setting.
  • Strong understanding of legal health and safety guidelines and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective training and incident reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify risk factors and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proficient in using relevant computer software for documentation and reporting.
