Freelance Music Composer

A music composer is required to collaborate on a deeply personal concept album consisting of 12 tracks. The project is being developed by a visual artist and songwriter who has written lyrics and drafted some melodies but is seeking a collaborator to bring the songs to life musically. The album’s sound will range from soft folk to powerful, emotionally charged ballads, drawing inspiration from artists such as Hozier and Florence + the Machine. The work will begin with one track to explore creative chemistry, with the potential to expand into the full album if the collaboration is successful.

Responsibilities

• Compose and arrange original music for 12 tracks, starting with one as a trial collaboration.
• Develop musical frameworks that complement existing lyrics and melodies.
• Blend folk, alternative, and ballad influences into cohesive compositions.
• Create instrumental arrangements that can support both intimate and high-energy dynamics.
• Provide notation, demos, or digital mockups of compositions.
• Collaborate creatively, offering input and ideas while respecting the personal vision of the songwriter.
• Deliver compositions in formats suitable for recording, production, or performance.

Skills and Requirements

• Proven experience as a music composer, arranger, or songwriter collaborator.
• Strong knowledge of folk, alternative, and ballad composition styles.
• Ability to translate rough melodies or lyrical ideas into full compositions.
• Proficiency with composition tools such as Logic Pro, Ableton, Cubase, Sibelius, or similar.
• Strong understanding of harmony, arrangement, and song structure.
• Open, collaborative approach with sensitivity to personal storytelling through music.
• Ability to produce high-quality demos to guide future recording or production stages.
• Prior experience collaborating with vocalists or lyricists is highly desirable.
