Job Description

Curator Operations




  • Perform organising aspects of exhibitions and concepts, arranging restoration of artefacts, monitoring loans, identification and recording of items and deal with enquiries.

  • Coordinate with other departments in conservation, education, design and Marketing Departments and obtain research and findings or ongoing activities.

  • Manage the collection of art works and organise them for exhibition or storage with utmost care for the art, ensure its safety and preserve it according to the defined processes.

  • Develop and organise new collections continuously to expand and improve educational and research facilities.

  • Carry out research activities extensively, conduct negotiations on prices and buy items such as sculptures, statues and paintings that can add value to the collection.

  • Conduct public and private tours and showings of art works and instruct educational workshops. Carefully maintain each art piece and organise an inventory of all the art pieces.

  • Conduct dating tests or X-Ray tests to determine the source or originality and provide information and findings to the line manager.

  • Prepare grant proposals and publicity materials that bring in funding for the art establishment with the instructions of the Unit Head.

  • Represent the curatorial, content-related components of the museum project in the strategic planning process.

     



Reports & Database




  • Maintain databases with all records and reports of cataloguing acquisitions are up-to-date for management review and to support DCT decision making process.

  • Handle reporting process and recording details of artefacts, exhibitions and restorations activities and provide written reports to the department manager as required.

  • Conduct extensive research acquisition and commission proposals to guide artists developing recommendation reports.

     



Policies, Processes and Procedures


Follow all  Curatorial Research & Publications section policies, processes, procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner

 


Collaboration


Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on matters related to Curator area in order to facilitate flow of information and also to build awareness in those areas.

 


Day-to-Day Operations


Follow the day-to-day operations set by the Line Manager in the Curatorial Research & Publications section to ensure continuity of work and the delivery of effective and high quality outputs.

Report on a regular basis to Curatorial Research & Publications Manager on their operational activities, Its challenges, hurdles and methods of resolution or mitigation etc. as required to keep the Line Manager informed and updated about their activities.

 


EHS (Environment, Health and Safety)


Comply with all relevant EHS guidelines, policies and procedures, by reporting incidents and hazards on a timely manner, and reduce consumption of natural resources to support in protecting the environment and ensure a healthy and safe work environment.

 


Change Management


Support the creation of culture susceptible to change management through a ‘hands-on’ and ‘can-do’ approach to DCT’s new business opportunities, participating in the development of new initiatives, meeting planned targets, and demonstrating preferred high-performance behaviours.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES


Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Culture or equivalent

Master’s Degree in Arts, Culture or equivalent is preferred.

 


Experience


Bachelor Degree Holders: 2 to 4 years of experience in Culture/Arts/Heritage role.

OR


Post Graduate Holders: 0 to 2 years of experience in Culture/Arts/Heritage field.
