Job Description

As a Consultant Neonatologist, you will bring your expertise to one of the most vital roles in pediatric care, providing specialized guidance and treatment for newborns who require intensive medical attention. You will be responsible for delivering the highest standards of care in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) setting, supporting premature and critically ill infants. This role demands a high level of clinical knowledge, the ability to make swift critical decisions, and the compassion to support not only the newborns but also their families during challenging times. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the development and improvement of neonatal practices, ensuring every infant has the opportunity for the best possible start in life.


Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care to critically ill newborns in the NICU with precision.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for premature infants.
  • Oversee and guide the performance of junior medical staff and trainees in neonatology.
  • Facilitate detailed family consultations to discuss infant prognoses and care plans.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes in neonatology.
  • Ensure the smooth running of neonatal care unit resources and staffing schedules.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to collaborate on complex neonatal cases.
  • Contribute to the academic knowledge base via research and publication activities.
  • Sustain continuous medical education to keep abreast of advancements in neonatology.
  • Coordinate with pediatric specialists to offer holistic treatment for neonatal complications.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital and NICU policies, patient safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 neonatal care support when necessary.

Requirements

  • Medical degree with a specialization in neonatology from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in neonatology or pediatrics with a focus on intensive care.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in a high-level neonatal or pediatric care setting.
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical skills and decision-making in complex scenarios.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities are required for a busy hospital environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with families and medical teams.
  • Research experience in neonatology or a related field is highly desirable.
