Job Description

A Clinical Dietitian plays a critical role in advancing patient care by evaluating nutritional needs and developing effective dietary plans. They work in various healthcare settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient clinics, and other medical facilities. The Clinical Dietitian's primary objective is to enhance patient health outcomes through strategic dietary management, preventing nutrition-related illnesses, and aiding in the recovery process. This profession requires a strong foundation of nutrition knowledge, a passion for patient care, and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. They assess patients’ dietary needs, monitor food service operations, and provide educational guidance to patients and their families, ensuring that nutritional requirements are met to support recovery and promote wellbeing.


Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' nutritional needs through detailed evaluations and consumer health assessments.
  • Develop personalized dietary plans to accommodate patients' health conditions and nutritional needs.
  • Monitor and report patients' progress and make necessary dietary adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, and therapists to optimize patient care.
  • Counsel individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring.
  • Plan and conduct nutritional educational programs for patients, their families, and community groups.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations governing food and nutrition services.
  • Document patients' progress, entry of records, updates, and nutritional assessments in patient files.
  • Stay updated on the latest research in nutritional science and integrate appropriate findings into practice.
  • Manage and oversee clinical care diet nutritional programs and food service areas as required.
  • Work with food service staff to ensure the dietary needs of clients are met in food offerings.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient nutrition protocols and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a closely related field required.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential and state licensure.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective patient care and teamwork.
  • Advanced knowledge of nutrition science and practical application in patient care.
  • Capability to assess individual needs and develop comprehensive nutritional plans.
  • Proficient in maintaining accurate documentation and patient records digitally and manually.
