Job Description

The position of Used Car Purchaser involves the acquisition of pre-owned vehicles for a dealership or a vehicle trading company. This role requires a keen eye for detail and an in-depth knowledge of automobiles and market trends. As a Used Car Purchaser, you will be responsible for evaluating, negotiating, and acquiring quality used vehicles that meet the company's standards and customer needs. You must be adept at assessing vehicle conditions, understanding the automobile market, and making informed purchasing decisions to maintain inventory levels and maximize profitability. The ideal candidate is resourceful, analytical, and possesses excellent negotiation skills, enabling them to forge strong relationships with sellers and brokers to secure favorable deals. Working closely with sales teams, you will ensure the inventory aligns with market demands and company targets, contributing significantly to the success of the business.


Responsibilities

  • Identify and source high-quality used vehicles that meet market demands and company needs.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to assess conditions and determine value.
  • Negotiate purchase terms and prices to obtain the best possible deals for the company.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with wholesalers, auctions, and private sellers.
  • Analyze current market trends and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records of all purchases including invoices and vehicle history reports.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to understand inventory requirements and sales targets.
  • Review and evaluate vehicles’ history and accident reports before purchase decisions.
  • Utilize technology and tools to aid in vehicle evaluation and decision-making processes.
  • Manage documentation for the transfer of vehicle ownership post-purchase.
  • Attend industry events to expand network and stay informed on market developments.
  • Evaluate and apply feedback from sales performance to improve purchasing decisions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years experience in automotive sales, purchasing, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive market trends and vehicle valuation processes.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills with a track record of closing favorable deals.
  • Proficiency in using automotive evaluation tools and software for informed decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with sellers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting purchasing goals.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel as required for auctions or purchases.
