Job Description

The role of a Senior Estimator is a vital part of the pre-construction process in any project-based organization. This position requires a seasoned professional who can accurately predict the costs of projects, thereby ensuring that clients are not only presented with competitive pricing, but also realistic and achievable estimates. As a Senior Estimator, you will spearhead the estimation process, collaborating with project management and design teams to create detailed cost proposals. This role demands a keen attention to detail, exceptional analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of market trends and industry standards. By taking into account all possible variables, from material costs to labor expenses, the Senior Estimator plays a critical role in the organization's ability to secure successful bids for new projects.


Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates that reflect both project scope and client requirements.
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Work closely with project management teams to understand project intent and align estimates accordingly.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and benchmark costs to ensure competitive estimates.
  • Engage in risk assessment to identify potential cost variations during project execution.
  • Provide feedback to project managers and stakeholders on cost-saving opportunities and alternatives.
  • Maintain an updated database of suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate quotation data.
  • Collaborate with the design team to verify design assumptions and integrate cost-effective solutions.
  • Conduct post-project analysis to compare estimated costs to actual project costs and improve estimation processes.
  • Support contract negotiation and preparation with detailed cost analysis documentation.
  • Prepare detailed reports and present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior estimators and provide guidance on best practices and estimation techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction estimating or a related field.
  • Proficiency in estimation software and tools such as Bluebeam or PlanSwift.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail are required for accurate estimation.
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively to clients and team members.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in mentoring and leading junior team members in estimation processes.
  • Strong negotiation skills to engage with suppliers and subcontractors effectively.
