Job Description

The School Counselor plays a pivotal role in fostering the academic, emotional, and social development of students. Tasked with supporting students across various grade levels, this position involves guiding students through personal and academic challenges, providing necessary resources, and empowering them to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. By collaborating with teachers, parents, and fellow educational professionals, the School Counselor works to create a safe and nurturing environment to facilitate learning and personal growth. This involves one-on-one counseling sessions, group workshops, and involvement in planning school-wide initiatives that align with students' needs and the educational institution's goals. The School Counselor must be adept at identifying individual and systemic barriers to student success and address them proactively.


Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counseling for students to address academic and emotional challenges.
  • Develop and guide group counseling sessions to promote social skills in students.
  • Plan and implement school-wide programs to reinforce a positive school environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to address students' specific educational needs.
  • Identify at-risk students and develop tailored intervention strategies for them.
  • Maintain confidential and comprehensive records of counseling sessions and interventions.
  • Coordinate with external agencies for additional support services when required.
  • Conduct workshops for staff and parents on issues impacting student development.
  • Advocate for students' well-being and emotional health within the school setting.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of students receiving counseling services.
  • Assist in the development of educational plans that support students' future goals.
  • Regularly evaluate and adapt counseling programs to meet emerging student needs.


Requirements

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or a closely related field is required.
  • Previous experience in a school setting is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development principles is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust with students and staff.
  • Proficient in conducting assessments and developing individualized intervention plans.
