Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in the construction industry, overseeing and managing all aspects related to the costs and contracts of building projects. They work closely with architects, contractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed within budget and on time. The role involves a detailed analysis of project plans and specifications, estimating costs, preparing tender documents, and managing the tendering process. The Quantity Surveyor makes certain that all work complies with statutory building regulations and is completed to a high standard of safety and quality. Additionally, they analyze contractual terms, negotiate conditions with stakeholders, and manage any changes or variations in project scope, ensuring that the financial interests of all parties are honored.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed budgets and estimates to establish project costing and control measures.
  • Compile, negotiate, and analyze tenders and contracts to facilitate project execution.
  • Monitor and control project expenses to ensure adherence to budget limitations.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of project specifications and blueprints for accuracy.
  • Prepare interim valuations and related assessments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and building regulations to mitigate potential risks.
  • Liaise with architects and project managers to streamline procurement processes.
  • Monitor and report on project progress while addressing any discrepancies promptly.
  • Administer contractual agreements by maintaining effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Analyze project risk potential and propose corrective measures accordingly.
  • Negotiate compensation events and adjustments for project variations or changes.
  • Facilitate post-project evaluation to determine learnings and document best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills to evaluate financial data effectively.
  • Familiarity with industry software and tools for budget management and estimation.
  • Excellent negotiation skills to manage contracts and stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle challenging project environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction regulations and building codes.
