Job Description

An IT Portfolio Manager plays a critical role in aligning a company's information technology investments with its overall business strategy. They are responsible for overseeing a collection of IT projects and programs, ensuring that each aligns with the strategic objectives and delivers maximum value. The IT Portfolio Manager analyzes project risks, evaluates project performance, and optimizes the portfolio to enhance efficiency and return on investment. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, in-depth technical knowledge, and superior analytical skills. Effective communication is crucial, as the IT Portfolio Manager must frequently collaborate with stakeholders, including executives, project managers, and IT staff, to make informed decisions and articulate the business impact of IT initiatives.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the IT project portfolio to align with business strategy.
  • Conduct continuous monitoring and evaluation of portfolio performance and alignment.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to prioritize projects based on strategic importance.
  • Analyze risks and provide recommendations for risk mitigation strategies.
  • Allocate resources effectively across the IT portfolio to improve efficiency.
  • Communicate project and portfolio status regularly to senior management and executives.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement to define IT priorities and objectives.
  • Implement portfolio management processes and governance frameworks efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the IT portfolio.
  • Lead change management initiatives related to IT projects and investments.
  • Evaluate new project requests based on strategic alignment and resource availability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, business administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an IT Portfolio Manager or in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and IT governance.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to assess project performance and strategic alignment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in portfolio management software and project management tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
