Job Description

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is responsible for ensuring that workplaces adhere to safety regulations and promote a healthy work environment. This pivotal role involves the implementation and management of policies, procedures, and programs to maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental welfare. The ideal candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of occupational health and safety legislation and demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge effectively within diverse work settings. As an HSE officer, you will conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and audits, offering essential advice on how to minimize risks and prevent accidents. Your expertise will be crucial in fostering a culture of safety consciousness and compliance, helping to protect employees, clients, and the company’s interests.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HSE policies and procedures in line with regulations.
  • Conduct thorough site safety inspections and prepare detailed inspection reports.
  • Identify workplace hazards and recommend appropriate precautionary measures.
  • Facilitate training sessions to educate staff about health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures and respond to any non-compliance issues.
  • Manage accident investigations and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with management to promote a culture of safety-conscious work practices.
  • Maintain accurate health and safety records, ensuring documentation is up to date.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and ensure emergency equipment is maintained and available.
  • Stay updated on HSE legislation changes and industry best practices to remain compliant.
  • Assist with the management of contractor safety and ensure alignment with company policies.
  • Analyze HSE performance and generate reports on safety metrics and trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a health and safety role is expected.
  • Strong understanding of occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and recommend preventative measures.
  • Experience with accident investigation techniques and root cause analysis is essential.
  • Certification in safety management, such as NEBOSH or IOSH, is highly desirable.
