Job Description

The Field Technician (Fiber / NOC) plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of fiber optic networks and supporting Network Operations Center (NOC) activities. This position requires a mix of fieldwork, technical acumen, and customer interaction as the technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables, along with troubleshooting network issues. The role demands adherence to industry standards while working independently or as part of a team. A successful Field Technician (Fiber / NOC) must have a strong understanding of network infrastructure, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in diverse environments. They will be instrumental in providing reliable connectivity solutions to enhance client satisfaction and network efficiency.


Responsibilities

  • Install and test fiber optic cables in field locations following established guidelines.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of network issues to restore service quickly.
  • Collaborate with the NOC team to monitor network performance and address alerts.
  • Maintain detailed reports on installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Provide on-site support to customers, ensuring satisfaction and clear communication.
  • Operate testing equipment to measure and analyze fiber optic communication systems.
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures during field operations at all times.
  • Participate in regular training to stay updated on new fiber optic technologies.
  • Coordinate with relevant teams to plan scheduled maintenance and upgrades.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations requiring immediate field attention.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working condition and accounted for.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures for field tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in fiber optic installations and repairs.
  • Proficient with fiber optic testing and measurement equipment and techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to multiple field sites as needed.
  • Experience with computer systems and software relevant to network operations.
  • Understanding of safety regulations and best practices in the fiber optic industry.
