Job & Division Summary

This role is responsible for the design, development, and sustenance engineering of Engine starters and Power tool products. The position involves end-to-end execution of subsystem-level projects, including understanding overall product architecture, adhering to product standards, preparing mechanical subsystem designs, leading and presenting design reviews, and overseeing prototype and subsystem validation. The candidate must be a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills, capable of managing multiple tasks, communicating effectively, and thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative concepts for Engine starters and Power tool products, ensuring compliance with product requirements, performance targets, and relevant industry standards.
  • Ensure Product design and development aligns with the structured New Product Development (NPD) process, including milestone-based execution, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Conduct phase-wise design reviews to validate technical feasibility, compliance with requirements, and readiness for subsequent development stages
  • Support Sustenance and Value Engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and operations—through all phases from prototype development to production launch, ensuring design intent and quality standards are met.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee product testing, working closely with lab technicians to ensure test procedures are executed accurately and test objectives are achieved
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation, such as CAD Models & Drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), test specifications, lab reports, and technical construction files in compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
  • Provide engineering support to strategic sourcing, procurement, quality assurance, manufacturing, customer service, and product management teams to ensure seamless product development and lifecycle management
  • Design and develop custom test fixtures and validation setups for product and subsystem-level testing, ensuring repeatability, accuracy, and alignment with test protocols.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in the design and development of industrial products, with hands-on expertise in manufacturing processes such as Casting, Forging, Plastic injection molding, and Sheet metal fabrication. Demonstrated ability to integrate design for manufacturability (DFM) principles and material selection to meet performance, cost, and durability requirements.
  • Work experience in Pneumatic Motor design, with expertise in flow analysis using simulation and empirical methods, supported by strong theoretical and mechanical design knowledge for effective validation and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in 3D modeling and drafting, with preferred experience using Creo Parametric (Pro/E) and Windchill PLM systems for efficient design data management and collaboration.
  • Proficient in ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), with hands-on experience in tolerance stack-up analysis and component inspection procedures to ensure design accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Working knowledge of DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and DVPR (Design Verification Plan and Report), with the ability to identify potential design risks and ensure comprehensive validation planning throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Experience in structural analysis using both simulation tools and theoretical calculations to evaluate mechanical integrity and to optimize designs.
  • Strong foundation in project management fundamentals, with proven ability to organize tasks, manage timelines, and successfully deliver multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electro-mechanical systems, including motors, batteries, wiring, connectors, switches, sensors, and PCBAs.
  • Demonstrated ability to explore and adapt emerging technologies and advanced manufacturing processes relevant to electro-mechanical product development.

Qualifications

B.E/B. Tech in Mechanical engineering from a reputed university with 5-7 years of experience in industrial product design.
