The Senior Legal Counsel is a quintessential role within any organization, offering strategic, operational, and tactical legal advice and services. As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in shaping legal frameworks, steering compliance efforts, and mitigating risks across all facets of the business. This position requires a candidate who is adept in various law disciplines, including but not limited to, corporate, commercial, intellectual property, and regulatory law. The ideal candidate will excel in providing leadership and legal insight to senior management and various departments, ensuring the company operates within legal confines while achieving its strategic goals.


Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice to senior management and other organizational departments.
  • Oversee corporate governance and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, including contracts.
  • Assist and guide the organization in managing legal risks associated with business activities.
  • Lead legal proceedings, including litigation matters and dispute resolution processes.
  • Stay updated on legal developments affecting the organization and its industry.
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel on specialized legal matters and cases.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies that align with the company’s objectives.
  • Conduct training sessions to educate staff on legal best practices and compliance.
  • Manage and supervise junior lawyers and paralegals within the legal department.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure adherence to legal standards and regulations.
  • Prepare regular legal reports for the executive team, highlighting key legal issues.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of post-qualification experience in a legal role.
  • Strong background in corporate, commercial, and regulatory legal affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal projects across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and communication skills are mandatory.
  • Membership in good standing with a state bar association is essential.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop legal teams.
