Job Description

The QA/QC Welding Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety standards of welding operations in various industrial projects. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of welding procedures, and strict adherence to industry standards and safety regulations. The inspector is instrumental in identifying defects or deviations from specifications, thus preventing costly errors and ensuring the integrity of structures and machinery. This role is essential in sectors such as construction, oil and gas, manufacturing, and shipbuilding where welding is a fundamental process. The QA/QC Welding Inspector must work closely with engineers and project managers, providing expertise and guidance to ensure projects are completed on time and within the required quality standards.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of welding activities to ensure conformity to design specifications and quality standards.
  • Verify welding procedures, qualification records, and personnel qualifications comply with industry standards.
  • Monitor welding operations to ensure correct techniques are employed and safety is maintained.
  • Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and welding codes to guide inspections.
  • Document and report welding defects and non-conformities for corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with project managers and engineers to address quality control issues promptly.
  • Maintain inspection records and prepare detailed reports for project documentation and audits.
  • Participate in pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld inspections to ensure comprehensive oversight.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to welding personnel to improve quality and safety.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, standards, and best practices in welding inspection.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to enhance current welding inspection protocols.
  • Review and validate welding consumables' certifications for compliance and suitability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification; technical certification preferred.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding inspection within relevant industries.
  • Strong understanding of applicable welding codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify welding defects and issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for detailed reporting.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment necessary for welding inspections.
