Steel Fabricator

A Steel Fabricator is a skilled craftsman responsible for the creation and assembly of structural metal components and frameworks used in various construction projects. This role requires a deep understanding of different steel types, their properties, and the fabrication methods that translate the raw materials into working metal structures. The Steel Fabricator must interpret blueprints and schematics, accurately measuring and cutting the metal pieces that will form the framework for buildings, bridges, and machinery. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, with excellent problem-solving skills, and should be able to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced, often noisy environment. Safety is paramount in this role, therefore the Steel Fabricator must adhere strictly to health and safety regulations at all times.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and analyze technical blueprints, drawings, and specifications for fabrication.
• Measure, cut, and weld steel components to precise dimensions and angles.
• Assemble fabricated parts into metal structures adhering to quality standards.
• Operate metalworking machines such as shears, saws, and drills with expertise.
• Inspect completed structures to identify any defects or non-conformance to design.
• Maintain and service tools and equipment used in the fabrication process.
• Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures in the workshop.
• Collaborate with engineers and other team members to resolve fabrication challenges.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed and materials used in projects.
• Conduct basic maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery when necessary.
• Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in fabrication technology.
• Move and position large steel parts safely using appropriate hoisting tools.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification is required for this position.
• Proven experience as a Steel Fabricator or a similar role in the industry.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical blueprints and drawings.
• Strong knowledge of metal fabrication techniques and welding procedures.
• Ability to operate metalworking machinery with precision and safety awareness.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detail in producing work.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment or independently.
