Job Description

A Safety Officer in the automotive industry is tasked with ensuring that workplace operations comply with safety regulations and standards to protect employees, visitors, and equipment. This role is critical in maintaining a safe work environment by identifying potential hazards, developing safety programs, and promoting a culture of safety within the organization. The Safety Officer should be knowledgeable about the specific risks associated with automotive operations, including physical, chemical, and ergonomic risks. They collaborate with management to integrate safety processes into various departments and provide training to employees on safe work practices. This role also involves conducting regular safety audits, accident investigations, and maintaining records to improve the safety performance of the organization.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of the automotive facility to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures specific to automotive operations and equipment.
  • Collaborate with management and staff to create and maintain a safety culture within the organization.
  • Investigate industrial accidents and incidents to determine their causes and develop preventive measures.
  • Conduct safety training sessions for employees to promote safe work practices in the automotive industry.
  • Monitor and assess hazardous and unsafe situations and develop measures to assure personnel safety.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, violations, and incidents for review and analysis.
  • Ensure all safety equipment and machinery are up to standards and functioning properly.
  • Participate in safety meetings and communicate safety updates to all employees regularly.
  • Advise on the use of protective equipment based on the type of automotive tasks performed.
  • Prepare and present reports on safety metrics and incident patterns to management.
  • Review and revise safety policies in compliance with new regulations and technological advancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience working as a Safety Officer in the automotive industry.
  • Strong understanding of safety management systems and safety legislation specific to automotive.
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety, such as NEBOSH or OSHA preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively promote safety initiatives.
  • Proven ability to conduct risk assessments and influence behavioral change in safety practices.
  • Proficient in using computer software for safety data analysis and report generation.
