Job Description

The role of a Project Quantity Surveyor is critical in the construction industry, focusing on the cost management and financial aspects of construction projects. As a Project Quantity Surveyor, you will play a significant role in ensuring that construction projects are completed within their projected budgets while meeting quality standards. Your expertise will be crucial in liaising with contractors, architects, and clients to secure the best financial outcomes through effective budgeting, cost estimation, and value engineering. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, ranging from commercial builds to residential developments, providing the financial acumen and strategic insight necessary to drive projects to successful completion. Your role will involve financial forecasting, measuring, and valuing work done on-site, and coordinating between multiple stakeholders to ensure optimal financial performance of projects. In this dynamic position, you need to possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail to maintain cost control and maximize efficiencies.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze project costings for tenders, including materials and labor.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers and subcontractors effectively.
  • Provide cost analysis and tracking to ensure project budgets are adhered to.
  • Deliver consistent reports to project managers highlighting financial progress.
  • Evaluate and advise on potential risks to project financial outcomes.
  • Measure and value work done on a regular basis to ensure cost accuracy.
  • Manage project variations and prepare detailed costing for changes required.
  • Conduct site visits to confirm project progress aligns with financial forecasts.
  • Facilitate detailed cash flow forecasts and financial planning for projects.
  • Collaborate with design teams to ensure financial feasibility of project designs.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of project financial information for audits.
  • Advise on procurement strategy, conducting feasibility studies where required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar field.
  • Proven experience in quantity surveying or a similar financial management role.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and cost structures.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant financial software and Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Exceptional analytical and numerical skills to manage project budgets effectively.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings and technical specifications accurately.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise confidently with contractors and clients.
  • Certified member of a professional Quantity Surveying institution is advantageous.
