JOB TITLE: Principal Engineer – Quality (Welding/Coating)

WORK LOCATION: Chennai Office

Key Responsibilities

  • Review procurement documents to ensure that Welding related requirements have been correctly translated into purchase requisitions and design documents.
  • Develop, Review and approve Vendor & Site Sub-Contractor ITPs, QCPs, WPS and ITRs based on corporate standard.
  • Coordinate with the customers representative on all quality Welding related matters.
  • Coordinate for failure analysis and root cause analysis on welding related issues.
  • Plan, conduct, track and report welding engineering investigations.
  • Monitoring Welding Procedure and Welder Qualifications.
  • Verify that the Welding related site activities are in accordance with the applicable codes and standards.
  • Monitor and control of sub-contractor Welding repair rate.
  • Participate in the internal and external site audits.
  • Control all non-conformance reports related to welding and undertake remedial action.
  • Review the customers specification and undertake relevant training to the site Welding inspectors.
  • Monitor the implementation of the approved site QC Plan.
  • Complete and coordinate the approval of the sites QC technical submittals related to Welding to the customer.
  • Assure all technical welding documents relative to site quality control are current status.
  • Report major welding issues to corporate quality which need to be circulated as a quality alert.
  • Familiar with fabrication of topside and Jacket and DNV standards
  • Develop, review coating related ITPs, Check lists, procedures for both Supplier/Site QMS.
  • Should have experience in offshore renewable energy projects
  • Supports coating acceptance testing, qualification testing, and troubleshooting efforts on assigned programs.
  • Resolves technical issues as they arise during coating operations with assistance from manufacturer, engineering, and construction team; identifies root causes of the problems using analytical techniques; provides clear and concise corrective action reports.

Essential Qualifications And Skills

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Metallurgy Engineering or equivalent.
  • International Welding Engineer (IWE), CSWP 3.2.2, NDT PCN Level 2 certifications.
  • Certified European Welding Engineer (preferred).
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience as Welding Engineer preferably in Oil & Gas, Offshore projects with coating experience an added advantage.
  • Should have previously worked with major EPC contractor.
  • Preferred certified NACE CIP Level-3 Coating Inspector Or
  • Certified ICorr Level-2 Insulation Inspector.
